Former Simple Life star Nicole Richie, 26, will expand her presence on the small screen this fall, when she appears in an episode of the NBC comedy Chuck, the network announced exclusively to PEOPLE. And Richie will be playing a role all too familiar in Young Hollywood: the Mean Girl.

According to NBC, Richie will play a “snarky and spiteful girl who tortured” actress Yvonne Strahovski’s character in high school. In the episode, airing sometime this fall, Strahovski’s character, Special Agent Sarah Walker, “must face her fears when she is forced to attend her 10-year high school reunion,” for a mission with costar Zachary Levi (Chuck) as her date.

Chuck’s executive producer Josh Schwartz says, “Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny. This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and be diabolically evil and kick some butt. It’s going to be really fun.”

Richie has also guest-starred on 8 Simple Rules … for Dating My Teenage Daughter and American Dreams.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden were spied house hunting in Beverly Hills Wednesday.

One option the couple visited, according to a source, was a $1.6 million Beverly Hills house that is described as a Cape Cod mini-estate. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a Jacuzzi tub, pool and a kitchen outfitted with state-of-the-art Viking and Sub-Zero appliances.

“They spent a lot of time looking at the house,” an eyewitness tells E! News. “They were clearly interested. It is a perfect place for them because it is walled in.”

Nicole, Joel and baby Harlow—who didn’t join her parents yesterday—currently live at Madden’s house in Glendale, which he bought down the street from his brother Joel’s house when he was single.

And with rumors of Richie and Madden getting married later this month, the couple’s recent house hunting is adding fuel to the fire.
In addition, a source tells E! News that Madden’s father, who lives in Maryland, is in town this week to spend more time with his sons and his granddaughter.

It’s not easy raising a celebutante. Take it from Lionel Richie. The singer was accepting the “Icon” honor at Sunday night’s taping of the TV Land Awards, when he got applause and a laugh at daughter Nicole’s expense.

“Forget about surviving 40 years in the music business,” Lionel Richie told the audience. “Just surviving 27 years of Nicole Richie has been a struggle-and-a-half, I want to tell you. I stand here as a survivor, I want you to know, for all the parents out there.”

In 2007, Nicole Richie spent 82 minutes in jail after being convicted of driving under the influence of drugs. She was arrested in December 2006 after witnesses reported seeing her Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle headed the wrong way on a freeway in Burbank, Calif.

Nicole, who made a name for herself on Fox’s “The Simple Life” along with Paris Hilton, hasn’t posed for any mug shots lately. Rather, she has been spotted out and about with 3-month-old Harlow, her daughter with Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden.

The sixth annual TV Land Awards are scheduled to air June 15 on the cable network.

Nicole, who gave birth to her first child, daughter Harlow, in January, will receive a Golden Pacifier Award from Babytalk Magazine, according to its editor-in-chief Lisa Moran.Moran tells OK! magazine, “Honoring Nicole Richie with a Babytalk Golden Pacifier Award might come as a surprise to some, but we felt that she deserved some recognition for her turnaround since becoming a mom.”She’s grown up a lot since the arrival of little Harlow, and her creation of the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation has demonstrated her efforts to set a good example by shining a spotlight on important issues affecting today’s families.” Also to be recognized is former talk show host Ricki Lake for her 2008 documentary The Business of Being Born, which chronicles her home-birthing experience.

Obviously the people over at Babytalk magazine have learned a few things about publicity. Following in the steps of the group that gave Dina Lohan an award for parenting, Babytalk has decided to bestow their highest award, the Golden Pacifier to Nicole Richie. The reason for the award is simple. Having managed to keep her baby alive for the first six months is reason enough when you want paps swarming the event and having blogs and tabloids publishing your name.

The fact that Nicole has admitted to not changing any diapers in the first six months is apparently a positive. The fact that she managed to get her boyfriend, nanny, and various helpers do all the work just is a sign of good parenting. I didn’t actually see that part in the press release, but, I’m sure it must have been included in a draft somewhere.

The magazine was also in awe at how she manages to go out every other night and still has not forgotten the name of her daughter. Harlow. Yes, that’s it. She remembers it because it rhymes with car towed which is what happened after the cops arrested her for driving on the wrong side of the freeway.

Congratulations Nicole on your outstanding achievements. I’m sure mothers everywhere around the world are applauding your parenting skills and wish they had the skills you do. No, they do. They wish they didn’t have to work the two jobs because their ex walked out. When he pays child support it still isn’t enough to even cover the cost of daycare, but mom doesn’t complain because she is doing what is best for her children. The moms of the world admire how you are such a good mom that you don’t even have to worry about finding the time to cook for your kids, clean for them, play with them, read to them, all while trying to find 5 hours of sleep and someone to fix that pinging sound in your 10 year old car.

So again, Congratulations Nicole. You must be very proud to be recognized as the mom of the year.
