Yesterday Actor Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves welcomed their second child–a girl named Vida Alves McConaughey. Vida is their second child; the couple also have a seventeen month old son named Levi. Matthew and Camila issued this statement:

Vida is Portuguese for ‘life’ and that’s what God gave us this morning… Camila’s recovering wonderfully and we are both truly honored to welcome this little lady into our family… thanks for all your well wishes and prayers along the way, another blessed day, we give thanks, just keep livin’, –Matthew and Camila.

Vida was born at 12:13am in Malibu, California where the couple reside. Congratulations to them.

Edit: Are you wondering who the #$^* Camila Alves is and how she got Matthew McConaughey? The first time I heard about her years ago when they first got together I wondered that, too. Let me break it down for you: Matthew probably was just looking for a smokin hot girl (see pictures below) who liked to smoke (he’s a stoner) and was willing to give up smoking to have a family for him–to make a more wholesome image–and then the two of them would go back to lookin’ good and smoking a lot. Not only does the 39-year-old Texan possess a pec/dimple combination potent enough to hypnotize theaters full of women, he’s also got something to offer their dates. What straight man could resist indulging in a McConaughey’s-my-bro fantasy, complete with light beer and hours spent chillin’ and grillin’ outside the actor’s famous Airstream, with the possibility of a wee-hours nude conga jam? Nicknamed “the Redneck Buddha” by actual bud and fellow shirt-eschewer Lance Armstrong, the onetime romancer of Penélope Cruz and Sandra Bullock has lately been hangin’ with Brazilian model Camila Alves, who last July gave birth to their son, Levi. This month, McConaughey steps out on his two-time rom-com partner Kate Hudson to woo Jennifer Garner in The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

ELLE: Did you have any odd misunderstandings about human sexuality as a kid?

MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY: Oh yeah. From checking out Playboy I always thought—jeezum, we still don’t have a better word for it than vagina, do we?—I thought it was behind the pubic hair, and it faced horizontal. You know, east/west, not south. So the first time I got to third base, man, I was hunting for a long time.

ELLE: You could have easily missed third altogether and wound up in a place so forbidden it never even got its own base.

MM: And I didn’t want to go there. I was real spooked about hunting around, so it took about an hour to find.

ELLE: Congrats on fatherhood. You were quoted saying that during Camila’s 14 hours of contractions, you “got tribal on it” and provided a soundtrack of Brazilian music. Having also attempted to deejay my wife’s labor, I’m curious: At any point did she threaten to shove the boom box down your throat?

MM: Oh, they’ll snap. Camila was the one who wanted the music, but she was also really quick to say, “Skip that fuckin’ song!” So here I was blazing through this playlist while she’s nodding her head yay or nay, and I’m like, This next song better have that groove or I’m going to have to run across the bed and change it.

ELLE: Your brother Rooster famously named his son Miller Lyte McConaughey. When your son was born, was there any impulse to follow in that family naming tradition?

MM: Like calling him Jose Cuervo? No. I wouldn’t dare try to compete with Rooster. Now he’s got a daughter coming, and I think her name is going to be Margarita. I’m serious.

ELLE: Barbara Walters seemed to be hitting on you during your 2006 interview, which ended with you rubbing her feet. If you’d both been single, might you have let her have her way with you?

MM: I would’ve had to tell those cameras to cut.

ELLE: All joking aside…?

MM: Look, I think Anthony Quinn once said, “There’s something wrong with any heterosexual man under 80 if he can’t find an angle with every woman.” There’s a lot of truth to that.

Hollywood heartthrob Matthew McConaughey has once again been leaving beach-goers bemused with his bizarre public yoga performances.

The Tropic Thunder star was spotted flexing his muscles while wearing a white tennis visor backwards near his home in Malibu.

His strenuous – and apparently spiritual - work-out included a series of stretches and sitting in the lotus position and praying.

Mr McConaughey, 39, who last week celebrated his girlfriend Camila Alves’ 27th birthday, was also joined on the beach yesterday by his dog BJ.

One onlooker said: ‘It was the funniest thing because he looks so serious while he’s doing the yoga. He’s every bit as funny as some of his films. He just doesn’t know it.’

The star, who has appeared in films including A Time To Kill, The Wedding Planner and Fools Gold and once dated Penelope Cruz, has been a yoga fan for years.

Other celebrity devotees include Madonna, Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie and Uma Thurman.

But yoga didn’t interest BJ a bit. He preferred to dig in the sand.

On Thursday night Mr McConaughey treated his Brazillian model Miss Alves to a delicious birthday dinner at LA celebrity haunt Nobu.

They were joined by friends and fellow stars, including the singer Pink.

Like shirtless father, like son.

Matthew McConaughey says it’s only a matter of time before his 2-month-old son Levi follows his father’s flip-flopped footsteps as a surfer.

“He’ll be getting salty soon,” the actor, 38, said in Santa Monica on Wednesday while promoting his upcoming movie Surfer, Dude.

Already, McConaughey says, Levi is “outdoors as much as he is indoors,” so hitting the waves is a natural progression. “He’s going to be out in the middle of it too,” he says.

In Surfer, Dude, McConaughey plays a soul-searching – and usually bare-chested – surfer in a comedy that pokes fun at his beach-boy image.

“When I’m lucky enough to be in a place where I don’t have to wear a shirt and shoes, I don’t,” he says. “It’s to pop the bubble and go ‘Guess what? Now I’ll do it the whole movie.’ ”

In fact, McConaughey says his much-photographed midsection came to prominence while working on this film.

“I started surfing to get ready – it’s been a little less than two years,” he says. “I wasn’t a big surfer before.”

They may not be married, but Matthew McConaughey calls the mother of his child, Camila Alves, “the love of my life.”

“I always wanted to be a father and thought it would be great, but it just took the right woman and the right time to make it all happen,” he told PEOPLE as he unwound after running Sunday’s Nike + Human Race in Austin, Texas.

(The 10-kilometer run took place on the same day in 25 cities around the globe, raising money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund and NineMillion.org.)

“[Camila] is the love of my life,” he said after crossing the finish line in under 44 minutes (beating his goal of 45). “Everything is right. It’s all good.”

Post run, he and Alves – a model and handbag designer who gave birth to their son in early July – brought baby Levi to check out the Ben Harper concert. (Little McConaughey was wearing tiny jeans and – yes – a white tee shirt.)

“We’re a family now,” said the Surfer, Dude star. “I see the future and it’s clearer to me now. Walking around with this cool responsibility all the time, it’s a wonderful thing.”

(He’s not even two months old, but concerts are already becoming old hat to Levi. His dad took had already taken him to see a John Mellencamp show.)

“We have a little bit more prep-time put into going places and doing things, getting him ready and everything,” he said while relaxing in the VIP area. “But it’s amazing.”

In Kay’s new book, “I Amaze Myself,” she talks about some pretty personal stuff, including how her husband, Matthew’s father, died while she was having sex with him. “On Monday mornings, he and I often said goodbye by making love,” Kay, 78, told Us magazine. “One day, all of a sudden, it just happened. I knew that something was wrong, because I didn’t hear anything from him. Just nothing. But it was just the best way to go!”
