Academy Award nominee, Jeremy Renner’s double cover feature for the September issue of Men’s Health. Jeremy Renner is featured as the magazines cover with an excellent interview about his rise to fame and how acting has affected his life. On a special flip fashion cover, Renner appears in a full fall fashion preview.

Quotes:

On the Academy Awards
“During the Academy Awards, I was sleeping under painter’s plastic in a guest apartment with no plumbing, and I had to brush my teeth at Starbucks,” says Renner, whose mother, now a retired bookkeeper, was his date for the ceremony.

On dealing with tabloids
“I don’t need some tabloid running off with something just because I got drunk some night and showed my ass to the bartender.”

On starting his acting career
“Nineteen years of emotional repression,” as he is fond of saying, came pouring out on stage, a catharsis he knew was worth repeating.

On staying true to himself
“My plan isn’t to be able to do what I want to do when I want to do it, and not because I have to,” says Renner. “I call it my ‘pull-chute’ plan. That’s a military thing, you know … time to pull chute, like, time to kind of float and enjoy the view.”

“So I made a very conscious decision to be fearless, to live a life of fear-freeness. I decided to do something every day I was afraid of.” Like? “I swam with sharks,” he says, recounting a scuba trip off California’s southern coast. “I was terrified of sharks and I’m still terrified of sharks, but at least I was taking action—and not being squelched by something I don’t know about.”

“Sometimes,” says Renner, “I just kind of want to have fun and be unconscious for a while.”

Pam: Sexy or Scary (8/1/10)

Aug 21, 2010 Author: showbiznews.info | Filed under: Celebrity News, Showbiz News, Celebrity Photos, Celebrity Gossip

Pam’s looking sexy from a distance but scary close up. I know she’s not as young as she once was but comparing her to someone like Jennifer Aniston, who is only two years younger, Pam’s looking a bit expressive in the face. She’s still sexy but her age is showing. Is it purely genetics or do you think Jennifer has some help from fillers? I wouldn’t be surprised to find either of them have been having injections but I would think Pam would be a bit tighter if she were. I do give her credit for keeping it natural. Pam will always be sexy in my book!

Never thought I’d say this but I am sick of seeing Angelina. I guess this happens every time she has a new film premiere and we  see her left and right. She’s a beautiful woman but I am not digging her new hair-do. I think she looks better when she leaves it darker and straighter. This lighter color with bangs and volume doesn’t suit her.

This week, ESSENCE.com chatted with Stacie about the “Real Housewives of D.C.” debut, her first impression of castmates Mary Schmidt Amons, Catherine “Cat” Ommanney and Michaele Salahi and where all the Black folks are on “Real Housewives of D.C.”

ESSENCE.com: How was your appearance on “The View” last week with the cast of “Real Housewives of D.C.”?
STACIE SCOTT TURNER: It was great, we had dressing rooms with our names on them! That was an experience!

ESSENCE.com: Speaking of, what happened with the Whoopi Goldberg vs. White House party crasher-cum-”Real Housewife of D.C.” Michaele Salahi scuffle? Michaele said Whoopi hit her, but then the talk show host denied it on “The View” the next morning?
TURNER: That is so unfortunate because I’m a Whoopi fan.

ESSENCE.com: On a lighter note, are fans recognizing you on the street after the debut of “Real Housewives of D.C.”?
TURNER: A few have and it seems like viewers have really tuned into the stories of the “Real Housewives of D.C.” and people are excited about it from the comments we’ve been getting from people.

ESSENCE.com: Let’s talk about Cat’s hating on Tyra Banks because you seemed to be personally offended by her saying that Tyra is not her favorite person.
TURNER: The episode with Cat was the first time that she and I had intersected socially. So I’d invited Mary to my house and I invited Cat too because I wanted to get to know her. It was really about a first-time guest coming to your home and I was a little bit taken aback by how outspoken she was and how she was so negative about people that I think highly of. I perceived it as completely rude and off-putting for the first time you’re meeting someone. It’s interesting that if you look at it, what was driving her opinion was a personal disappointment and love for her husband. Of course if your husband is doing something great, you want everyone to support him, even the President of the United States! Nothing should be more important than his event, so as a wife and lover of my husband, I could see where she was coming from.

ESSENCE.com: So Cat seemingly discrediting Obama, was more about Bush RSVPing to her wedding rather that Cat supporting Bush in your home as an Obama-supporter?
TURNER: I think that it was hurt feelings. Her husband is a White House photographer and he’s taken a number of really memorable photos of Obama that have been plastered all over the place and the papers. So they’re clearly supporters of Obama and it surely wouldn’t make sense to speak negatively about him if he’s your husband’s employer, so there has to be more to it.

ESSENCE.com: How about Mary Schmidt Amons supporting Black and White unity through “integrated” hair salons?
TURNER: That was Mary having a good time at her birthday party and celebrating her day with plenty of champagne.

ESSENCE.com: Birthday or not, we were wondering exactly what she was talking about. Obama in the White House means we should all get perms together?
TURNER: Ha! That’s what I was thinking when I was looking at her, ‘what are you thinking?’

ESSENCE.com: Many of our readers, both on Facebook and ESSENCE.com, wondered since Washington D.C. is the “Chocolate City,” where are the rest of the Black folks? Besides your girl Shirley, of course.
TURNER: That’s so funny that people recognized Shirley! She’s my hair dresser and a well-known stylist here in D.C. You’ll see Black people throughout the series and as the only African-American housewife, I know everybody is wondering if there’s any diversity, are there any Black people represented on the show? There are throughout the story because my world has a number of Black people in my circle and certainly with my friends and family, so don’t worry.

ESSENCE.com: What can we anticipate in this week’s episode of “Real Housewives of D.C.”?
STACIE SCOTT TURNER: This week we’re going to Paul Wharton’s birthday party and we’re going to have a soulfood dinner at Aunt Francis’ house in Virginia. This one’s fun because you get a glimpse of my family and I believe you really get to know a person once you meet their family and see where they come from. I believe that the ladies also go horseback riding with the Salahi’s because Michaele gets a new horse.

After serving only 18 days in prison, E! Online reports that rapper DMX has been released from the Los Angeles County prison where he was slated to do 90 days time for probation violation.

The hitmaking MC, born Earl Simmons, surrendered himself to authorities on July 26 for a probation violation in connection with a 2002 DUI. It was his second stint in the big house this year, and his third trip to prison in two years. The rapper, 33, was ordered to go behind bars earlier this year for six months after admitting to using drugs while on probation.

According to E!, he also served a full 90-day sentence in 2009 after cutting a plea deal on drug possession and animal cruelty charges in Arizona.

While DMX’s early career was categorized by a string of chart-topping hits and film roles (most notably “Cradle 2 the Grave” with Jet Li), he hasn’t released an album since 2006′s “Year of the Dog…Again” and has been more notable in recent years for his prison stints than his music or acting.

Incidentally, he’s not the only celebrity to get out of jail earlier than anticipated: Lindsay Lohan served two weeks of her 90-day sentence before she was released and sent to rehab earlier this month.

According to TMZ, DMX has also battled addiction for several years and went so far as to ask for “Celebrity Rehab’s” Dr. Drew Pinsky’s help in March. Show staffer Will Smith, who also works at the Pasadena Recovery Center where the show takes place, dismissed the notion that the rapper would be admitted as a contestant, but instead, would need some significant time in a lock-down facility.

“He’s looking at nine months to a year of treatment,” Smith told the Arizona Republic.

Kanye West performed a secret show at The Box in the wee hours of yesterday morning to a crowd of 200 that included British soccer superstar David Beckham.

Guests were only told about it a few hours before and ordered to wear suits or evening dresses.

West did versions of his hits as well as new songs with John Legend on piano, and was also joined in one song each by Kid Cudi and Estelle.

Box owner Simon Hammerstein told us, “The night was moving, thrilling and classy.” Kanye tweeted afterward: “Hell of a night, hell of a life.”

Despite supposedly being in a relationship with Porschla Coleman, a model who dated Russell Simmons, Kidd was letting loose at Eden Lounge in DC, where he was flocked by four 20-something girls.

“You better come back,” he was overheard telling one beauty who slipped away.

Kidd dealt with a messy divorce in 2007, citing “extreme cruelty” by wife Joumana, who claimed he physically abused her — but was all smiles as he entertained the ladies.
