Lil Wayne has agreed to go to jail in a gun case, but it has proven unexpectedly hard to put him there.

First, the rap star’s sentencing was postponed last month so he could undergo surgery on his bejeweled teeth. Then, a fire shut down Manhattan’s main criminal courthouse while he was on his way there last week.

But Lil Wayne is finally set to be sentenced Monday to a year in city jail, as planned when he pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted illegally having a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper, born Dwayne Carter, has been one of music’s most prolific and profitable figures in recent years. His “Tha Carter III” was the best-selling album of 2008. His latest album, “Rebirth,” was released last month.

Facing jail with his career in full throttle, Lil Wayne has prepared with a burst of work and farewell shows and videos for fans. He said in a video clip sent last week to MTV News that he shot footage for seven music videos with various artists in one night over the weekend.

He told Rolling Stone for a story last month that he planned to keep working behind bars.

“I’ll be still rapping in there, have a gang of raps ready when I come back home,” he said.

With good behavior, he could be released in about eight months.

City jail officials haven’t said where the multiplatinum-selling artist will be housed among their roughly 13,000 inmates. His lawyer has said she plans to ask for protective custody out of concern for safety, as well as his health after his extended oral surgeries.

Sandra Bullock is on a career high. America’s Sweetheart and “Miss Congeniality” was repeatedly anointed as Hollywood royalty this year, sweeping awards season and capping it off with an Oscar for her role as a devoted mom in “The Blind Side.”

But as this Tinseltown fairy-tale played out on camera, real-life drama may have been brewing behind the scenes.

With worldwide attention on the brand-new Oscar winner – who first captured hearts as a brave bus passenger in 1994’s “Speed” and went on to amass more than two dozen movie credits – Bullock is being dogged by tabloid reports of problems with her husband of nearly five years.

Internet rumors surfaced Wednesday that the 45-year-old actress’ husband, celebrity motorcycle builder and reality-TV star Jesse James, had been unfaithful while she was making her Oscar-winning film. Bullock subsequently canceled a planned appearance next week at the London premiere of “The Blind Side,” citing “unforeseen personal reasons.”

On Thursday, James apologized to his wife and three children from previous relationships through a statement issued to People magazine and later obtained by The Associated Press.

“It’s because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way,” he said. “This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them.”

He added that “the vast majority of the allegations reported are untrue and unfounded,” but offered no other details, saying, “Beyond that, I will not dignify these private matters with any further public comment.”

Representatives for Bullock did not respond to calls and e-mails seeking comment Thursday.

Publicly, there was no indication of strife as the couple appeared happily arm-in-arm throughout Hollywood’s awards season while Bullock racked up the accolades.

She called her husband “sexy” as she accepted her Screen Actor’s Guild award. Backstage, he held her purse as she spoke to reporters.

At the Golden Globes, Bullock told James from the stage, her voice cracking with emotion: “There’s no surprise that my work got better when I met you. Because I never knew what it felt like for someone to have my back.”

Things were different at the Academy Awards.

Bullock did not thank her husband, who appeared teary-eyed on camera as she accepted her award. Instead she thanked mothers and parents everywhere – including a poignant tribute to her own mother – along with her fellow nominees and “everyone who’s shown me kindness when it wasn’t fashionable.”

Still, Bullock and James, 40, walked hand-in-hand down Oscar’s red carpet, celebrated together at the parties afterward and were photographed outside a Long Beach burger joint the next day.

The actress and the “Monster Garage” star met in 2003 and married in 2005. Initially deemed an odd match by some – she’s the girl next door, he’s a tattooed bad-boy – the couple stayed blissfully out of the public eye while continuing their individual successes.

Bullock had dated actors, including Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling, and was engaged to Tate Donovan, but her marriage to James is her first. James had been married twice before and is in an ongoing dispute with his most recent ex-wife over custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Sunny.

Bullock has said she loves James’ children as though they were her own and that the eldest, Chandler, selected her regal Oscar gown.

While winning an Academy Award can be a boon to actors’ careers, it’s not always great for their personal lives. Sean Penn won the best-actor Oscar last year for “Milk” and split with his wife, Robin Wright Penn, a few months later. (He didn’t thank her in his speech, either.) Last year’s best-actress winner, Kate Winslet, separated from her husband, director Sam Mendes, earlier this week.

The rapper, real name Earl Simmons, was taken into custody in Phoenix, Arizona and brought before a judge after allegedly violating the terms of his probation by using illegal drugs.

The star appeared clearly agitated as he waited and began an obscenity-laden tirade about his civil rights once the hearing was over, witnesses said.

Speaking into the camera, DMX ranted, “Real fair treatment going on. I’m the only one here. I’m the only one got arrested today… F**king c**ksuckers do it every time, man. I get my rights violated but I gotta be quiet about it.”

DMX spent time in jail last year on charges of drug possession, animal cruelty and theft, stemming from various arrests in 2008. He was sentenced to 18 months probation after his release in May for verbally threatening a guard during his stint in prison.

Keira Knightley: ELLE Beauty

Keira Knightley is on the cover of ELLE’s March issue. She talked about her current projects and being criticized as an actress.

Her upcoming film, Last Night, explores the issue of infidelity. According to Variety, the story follows a married couple tempted to cheat when they spend a night apart— the husband with a colleague and his wife with a past romance.

“When we were making it, the arguments on set were just amazing about whether mental infidelity is better or worse than physical infidelity,” she said.

That is a question the film explores, and according to Knightley, “there was a huge gender divide on the question.” Women said “mental infidelity is 10 times worse” and “most men” said physical is “the ultimate betrayal,” she said.

On criticism: “How do you feel knowing that everyone thinks you’re a s— actress?” is a question she always encounters.

Surrounding herself with people who tell her the truth: “You have to be selective about the people whose advice and opinions you take,” she said. “I know [my parents] would never tell me I was s— because they were trying to hurt me. I t would always come from a very sincere place.”

Mick Jagger and Angelina Jolie got satisfaction and spent more than one night together during a torrid affair, according to a bombshell new book.

The puffy-lipped rocker and actress, who’s 32 years younger than Mick, first hooked up in 1997 when Jolie appeared in the Rolling Stones video “Anybody Seen My Baby,” author Jenny Paul claims in her tell-all, “Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie: The True Story.”

Jagger was then married to model Jerry Hall, while Jolie was hitched to British actor Jonny Lee Miller.

The pair got their sticky fingers on each other again in 2003, Paul writes, the same year Jolie got divorced from Billy Bob Thornton.

The next year, Jolie began shooting “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” the art-imitates-life movie that helped her snare current boyfriend Pitt. Reps for Jolie and Jagger did not return our calls.
