A 53-year-old man who told police he is secretly engaged to marry Miley Cyrus has been charged with attempting to stalk the teenage “Hannah Montana” star, who is filming a movie in the Savannah area.

Tybee Island Police Chief Jim Price said Wednesday that Mark McLeod, 53, of Appling was arrested after Walt Disney Pictures security officers reported he had returned to the beachside movie set Sunday after police warned him to stay away in June.

“He was asking for Miley and going up and knocking on some doors” of beach homes near the set, Price said. “The security guards recognized him. In fact, he went up to the security guards and asked them, ‘Is Miley around?’”

Wearing a yellow tank top and denim shorts so droopy that a deputy had to hold them up in back, McLeod appeared briefly before a Municipal Court judge at the Chatham County jail Wednesday afternoon.

Judge Steven Scheer set bond for McLeod at $50,000, with conditions that he doesn’t return to Tybee Island except for court appearances and he stays away from Cyrus and her family.

“Do I make myself perfectly clear?” Scheer said to McLeod, who wore shackles around his wrists and ankles.

“I got that. Yes, sir,” replied McLeod, who also asked for the court to appoint him a lawyer.

Police on Tybee Island, 12 miles east of Savannah, have been on the lookout for McLeod since he was arrested there June 22 on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction of a police officer.

Price said officers arrested McLeod after he tried to breach a security perimeter around the movie set. A police report says McLeod told officers he had come to the beach “to be with Miley” and tried to head butt one of them when he was handcuffed. McLeod later told police he and the 16-year-old Cyrus “were supposed to be together and we couldn’t stop it.”

Officer Warren Millikan wrote in his June report that McLeod claimed he’d met Cyrus 18 months earlier, that he’d sent her diamond rings and other gifts and that she had accepted his marriage proposal.

The report said McLeod told police Cyrus’ father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, approved of their relationship and that Miley Cyrus sent him “secret messages” through her TV show.

The officer’s report quoted McLeod as saying, “Our eyes met at her concert and we both knew. I walked straight through security and up to her bus. Bill Ray was standing there. He shook my hand and said you’re the good man we’ve been praying for.”

Cyrus has been working on the movie “The Last Song” in coastal Georgia since mid-June. Filming is supposed to wrap up later this month.

McLeod was released from jail in June after signing papers agreeing to return for a court appearance Sept. 1. Price said police obtained a warrant to charge him with criminal attempted stalking, a misdemeanor, after he came back to the island Sunday.

McLeod has made no known threats to Cyrus, Price said, but the attempted stalking charge was warranted because “he’s been warned by the police officers not to come back after the first arrest.”

Sheriff’s deputies in Columbia County arrested McLeod at his home in Appling, 180 miles from where Cyrus is filming, Tuesday evening. He was transported Wednesday back to jail in coastal Chatham County.

In March, the New York Daily news shot video of McLeod waiting in line at a book-signing appearance by Cyrus in Manhattan. “Hold me up. I’m a little bit nervous,” said McLeod, shivering in a heavy coat and wool hat.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever, uh, actually been face to face with her,” McLeod told the newspaper. “I talk to her a lot but it’s kind of like I talk and she responds with pictures. It’s just the way we communicate. I’m going to get her some flowers and I’m going to ask her to marry me.”

Judging from Jon Gosselin’s expanding waistline, the reality star’s not spending much time at his upper West Side apartment building’s health club.

Kevin Federline’s passion for junk food (he was photographed double-fisting French fries on a recent trip to Paris) is evident in his ballooning belly.

The same goes for hefty Brendan Fraser, whose expanding waistline is a far cry from the star’s chiseled abs he sported in his earlier action-adventure films.

The three chunked-up fathers have something else in common: a marital split, which means they’re flying solo when not on daddy duty.

That can be a tough gig, so working out may not be a high priority for these guys. Instead, they’re likely to be eating poorly, not sleeping well at night and worrying about their kids.

“Men gain weight faster during a divorce than women,” says Dr. Eric Braverman, author of “The Younger Thinner You Diet.”

“Men tend to eat worse when they’re not living with someone, and they binge on carbs when their moods go down. Carbs and fat give them a temporary mood lift.”

Splitting up means a complete disruption of normal routines, which leads to erratic eating, says Sasha Pasulka, founder of the Evil Beet Gossip Web site.

“For Jon Gosselin, it’s a lot of partying,” she says. “He’s trying to make up for lost time. And Kevin Federline was a dancer before he married Britney, burning up hundreds of calories a day. With four kids, he probably doesn’t have that much time for dancing anymore. Also, he toured with Britney, and it’s easy to put on weight during a tour when you’re eating crap and spending hours on a bus when you could be exercising.”

All divorcing fathers must face the simple fact that the stress they are under causes the production of hormones that actually can result in weight gain, says performance coach Jenny Evans.

“When your system is stressed, it releases adrenaline and cortisol,” she explains. “These affect the appetite by stimulating the body to crave foods that are high in fat and sugar. So it is not just an emotional craving, but a physical one, too.”

With many divorcing dads not getting enough sleep, weight piles on. “People who don’t get enough sleep are hungrier,” Evans says.

There are other, subtler reasons for weight gain: the sudden withdrawal from the spotlight, says Pasulka.

“These guys, when they are in a relationship for several years, are conscientious about how they eat, and they work out,” she says. “But when they break up and try to go back to their old bachelor life, they find out that they’re not 25 anymore and their metabolism is not 25 either.”

So does that mean those piled-on pounds are here to stay? “The good news is that divorced dads can pull out of it and rebuild,” Braverman says. “They should eat a rainbow of colors, use spices like basil and cumin because these cut the appetite, and drink teas like green and oolong.”

And, he adds, once their finances are in better shape and they’re in a relationship, “men get back on track and lose weight.”
Looks like it might be time to get off the tour bus and on the treadmill.

Patrick Swayze’s cancer first became public knowledge, it was thought he only had months to live.

But the Dirty Dancing star has battled on, even visiting a shop to buy smoking paraphernalia with his brother Donny.

Despite the unhealthy cigarette he was smoking the 56-year-old, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early last year, looked healthier than he has in months.

He even appeared to have gained a little weight and had grown some of his hair back, including a new goatee.

Tubes thought to be catheters for his chemotherapy could be seen hanging in front of his shirt, but Swayze was smiling as he picked up a glass pipe from the Los Angeles store.

Early on in his cancer fight, many fans feared the actor would not last this long.

But it is thought he had an advanced form of radiotherapy which is offering new hope to sufferers.

The CyberKnife technique shoots hundreds of beams of radiation at hard-to-reach tumours.

It moves with the patient’s breathing, meaning it can target tumours deemed inoperable due to their proximity to major blood vessels.

The latest images of Swayze appear to show a distinct improvement in the actor’s condition.

In May the former Ghost star appeared frail and painfully thin during another outing and fears grew that he might not have long to live.

On the evidence of these images however it appears Swayze is not going down without a fight.

Rachel Bilson has denied reports she’s split from fiance Hayden Christensen after she was photographed without her engagement ring.

The couple, who met on the set of the 2006 movie “Jumper,” became engaged in December.

The pair has been dogged by rumors of a split in recent weeks and the former “The O.C.” actress fueled speculation when she was recently spotted without her diamond band.

But her representatives have blasted the claims, insisting Bilson sometimes leaves her expensive jewelry at home.

A spokesperson tells the New York Daily News, “The engagement is on; she just doesn’t always wear the ring.”

Mischa Barton’s proving that you can take the party out of the girl, but you can’t take the girl out of the party.

Just days after getting released from her forced hospitalization on July 15, Barton was spotted Sunday night at NYC’s All Points West festival.

And the former “OC” starlet certainly wasn’t making any effort to fly under the radar.

Instead, she paired a black, strappy, backless minidress with hot pink and black Christian Louboutin stilettos, as she partied alongside DJ Daisy Lowe and designer Richie Rich, the Daily Mail reports.

It’s a curious return to the party scene for a girl who has spent most of her time recently in “involuntary psychiatric hold.”
Upon getting sprung from her stay, she immediately dove back into work filming the new TV series “The Beautiful Life,” in which she, curiously, plays a model-turned-drug addict.

But just because she was out and about doesn’t mean she was up to her old tricks.

Sources told RadarOnline that the 23-year-old actress drank only water and smoked cigarettes while she listened to an acoustic set by Peter Bjorn at the Cooper Square Hotel.

During the party, Barton told OK! Magazine, “I’m feeling great. I’m really happy,” and even made an early exit to go home and watch HBO’s “True Blood.”

She told the mag that “The Beautiful Life” is “going really well…I’m excited,” and her costars seem to agree.

Actress Sara Paxton told People, “We had our first read-through and we’re all so very excited to have her back. She’s such a great girl. We really didn’t talk about everything that’s been going on. It was really all work.”

Filming for the upcoming CW series, which also stars Elle MacPherson and Corbin Bleu, was put on hold while Barton was still being treated in Los Angeles.

The show, which films at the Kaufman studios in Astoria, is set to premiere in September.
