The ladies of New York can all breathe a sigh of relief: Derek Jeter isn’t engaged - yet.
We caught up with the Yankee shortstop before his team bested the Texas Rangers on Tuesday and asked about the rumors he’s set to wed “Friday Night Lights” actress Minka Kelly, with whom he was reportedly caught ring-shopping earlier this year.
“The what?” Jeter asked incredulously. “Engagement rumors with who? I have not heard that.”
Sounds like Jeter has learned a thing or two from teammate Alex Rodriguez on the importance of keeping his affairs hush-hush: A-Rod has famously remained tight-lipped about his rumored dalliances with Madonna, Donna Karan and now A-list actress Kate Hudson. Despite using his energy as a different kind of player off-field, his teammates say Rodriguez is still bringing his A-game.
“He’s been playing great,” second baseman Robinson Cano said. “I don’t see anything ruining his game.”
Confided first baseman Mark Teixeira: “We don’t really talk about [A-Rod’s personal life]. We just really worry about what’s going on on the field and winning baseball games. That’s our job.”
Catcher Jorge Posada echoed that sentiment. “To tell you the truth, we don’t even discuss it,” he said. “He just comes to play ball, and that’s all we care about. Never mind A-Rod’s love life - Posada was quick to call him the driving force behind the team. “He is the guy that splits up the line,” Posada said. “You get him as the cleanup hitter, and everything feels a little better. I think the lineup gets better when he’s here.”
Another person who may agree with Posada is Johnny Hoisik. The 4-year-old Yankee fan from Carle Place, L.I., got the chance to meet his heroes while filming TLC’s “Moving Up” before Tuesday’s game. In addition to having interior designer Doug Wilson create for him a Yankee-themed bedroom with field-turf flooring and a locker room-inspired closet, Hoisik played catch with former player Bernie Williams and received a pair of batting gloves from A-Rod himself.
Ah, if only Minka Kelly were lucky enough to receive a pair of gloves from her man … because it looks like an engagement ring isn’t happening anytime soon!

ASHLEE Simpson is married to Pete Wentz and she’s the mother of his child, but she’s apparently still insecure when it comes to her man’s former flames.
An out-of-control Simpson loudly trash-mouthed “Gossip Girl” actress Michelle Trachtenberg on Monday night at the “DJ Hero” video game party at LA’s Wiltern Theatre, according to PerezHilton.com.
Ashlee, Jessica Simpson’s younger sister, had to be restrained at the event where Jay-Z and Eminem performed. The trouble started when Wentz and Simpson were seated near Trachtenberg, who dated Wentz before Simpson met the Fall Out Boy bassist.
According to PerezHilton: “The evening started off very civilly. Pete and Ashlee had a pleasant conversation with Michelle and her boyfriend for close to 20 minutes, and even showed [Trachtenberg] some baby pictures of [Ashlee’s] little boy, Bronx.”
But then Simpson started drinking. “Things got out of control,” an insider was quoted. An increasingly loud Simpson began to give Wentz a lap dance while staring directly at Michelle and hurling insults at her. “She was grinding up on Pete like a stripper. It was actually pretty disgusting,” a witness told the Web site.
Things reached a climax when Simpson screamed at a confused Trachtenberg, “I hope you know, the whole time you were dating Pete, I was [bleep]ing him!”
A bystander dragged Simpson away from Trachtenberg, who once starred in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” while Wentz looked mortified.
Trachtenberg’s spokesperson didn’t return Page Six’s calls. But Simpson’s rep said, “It was just a misunderstanding. Ashlee has since apologized to Michelle and they remain on good terms.”
Meanwhile, Wentz and Simpson will celebrate his 30th birthday this weekend at club Bank at the Bellagio.

It looks like Oliver Stone sealed the deal with Shia LaBeouf to star in “Wall Street 2,” previously titled “Money Never Sleeps.” LaBeouf was in talks with the director to star alongside Michael Douglas and Javier Bardem in the sequel to Stone’s 1987 hit, “Wall Street.” On Tuesday, the two sat down with “six men in suits” at La Bottega in the Maritime Hotel, a source reports. It must have been important because, our witness said, “they demanded the restaurant shut down” for the top-secret meeting.

While A-Rod was in Cleveland playing the Indians Monday night, the blond beauty popped into Bar 108 on West Houston Street to catch the game. “Kate was watching A-Rod bat,” said our spy. “She only stayed for one inning but was cheering the whole time.” Tuesday night she watched from the stands at Yankee Stadium.

KRISTIN Cavallari annoys almost as many people in real life as she does on TV. The star of “The Hills” was hosting a fashion show at club Tantra in St. Maarten with Victoria’s Secret beauty Selita Ebanks when she decided to playfully toss some glitter at catwalking models, who didn’t appreciate the gesture. “After the show, four of the models had to be re strained from trying to start a fight with her while she was in the DJ booth with Robert Iler and DJ Ruckus,” says a spy. “One of them grabbed her by the hair before the fra cas got broken up.” Club security eventu ally escorted the miffed models out before anyone broke a nail.

Dubai is synonymous with glitz and excess - but can the Middle Eastern hotspot handle the likes of Paris Hilton?
The fame-loving heiress is about to make her first trip to Dubai. The city, located in the United Arab Emirates, will be the location for an upcoming edition of her reality series “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.”
Producer Michael Hirschorn said Wednesday that filming will begin later this month and last some three weeks. The finale will be filmed in Los Angeles.
Hirschorn said the show - and Hilton - will respect the culture of the region, and will be “walked through in great detail what is expected” and allowed.
Casting is under way to find contestants to compete for the chance to be Hilton’s new best friend forever - or BFF.
Hilton, 28, wants to expand her brand in the Arab world, said Hirschorn.
He said the plan is to build “My New BFF” into a global franchise, with Hilton searching for BFFs around the world.
Hilton previously filmed two seasons in Los Angeles for MTV and one in London for British television. The second season of the American edition premiered Tuesday.
The Dubai version is “intended for broadcast throughout the Arab region, so it will be sold to networks throughout that area,” said Hirschorn. “The hope is to sell it internationally, (in) Europe and Asia and the United States if possible.”
No air date has been set, he said.
This time, Hilton will bring her boyfriend, Doug Reinhardt.
“She’s very aware that she’s not going to be going and pointing fingers and laughing at anybody,” Hirschorn said. “She’s gonna be respectful. But also, if anything, (she) will be poking fun at herself. I think some of the comedy will come out of the learning about the dress and the behavior.”

Cher has sued Universal Music Group, claiming the company owes her and Sonny Bono’s heirs more than $5 million.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Santa Monica claims Cher and Bono’s widow and children are owed royalties on songs that were included in recent greatest-hits compilations. The suit also states UMG has failed to provide key records that would show how much is actually owed.
UMG spokesman Peter LoFrumento (Lo-FROO’-men-toe) says the lawsuit is “without merit” and the company expects to win in court.
Bono and Cher were married for nearly 10 years before divorcing; their daughter Chastity stands to receive some of the royalties if the suit prevails. Bono later became a U.S. congressman and died in a skiing accident in 1998.
