Senator Ted Kennedy — who is battling brain cancer — collapsed after suffering a seizure at a luncheon honoring President Barack Obama Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

Paramedics rushed to the Capitol building, where the lunch was held shortly after Obama’s swearing-in ceremony, and took Kennedy away on a stretcher. ABC News reports that the senator’s seizures lasted several minutes, and continued as he was being taken out.

Dr. Edward Aulisi, Chairman of Neurosurgery at Washington Hospital Center, released a statement to Entertainment Tonight blaming the fall on fatigue.

“Senator Edward Kennedy experienced a seizure today while attending a luncheon for President Barack Obama in the U.S. Capitol. After testing, we believe the incident was brought on by simple fatigue. Senator Kennedy is awake, talking with family and friends and feeling well. He will remain at the Washington Hospital Center overnight for observation, and will be released in the morning,” his doctor said.

Obama was not in the room at the time, but he spoke a few words after returning.

“First of all, I know that while I was out of the room, concern was expressed about Teddy,” Obama said. “He was there when the Voting Rights Act passed. And, along with [Representative] John Lewis, was a warrior for justice.

“And so I would be lying to you if I did not say that right now a part of me is with him. And I think that’s true for all of us,” Obama added. “This is a joyous time, but it’s also a sobering time. And my prayers are with him and his family and [his wife] Vicki.”

Senators John Kerry, Christopher Dodd and Orrin Hatch walked with Kennedy down to the ambulance.

“He was starting to do okay by the time he got wheeled into the ambulance,” Hatch told ABC News. “He was [conscious], he was speaking.”

Michelle Obama celebrated her husband Barack Obama’s Inauguration in a dazzling white Jason Wu gown.

Michelle donned a $3,510 dress made from the 26-year-old Taiwan-born designer for a November interview with Barbara Walters. The Journal reports Wu’s evening wear sells for $3,000 to $6,000.

What’s in a dress?

Michelle’s choice is “a balancing act between being a queen and a commoner,” Carl Sferrazza Anthony, a historian who’s written about first ladies, told The Dallas Morning News. “The inaugural gown is a metaphor for the first lady role.”

He added: “They reflect around the world an image of our country.”

Earlier today, Michelle stepped out in a gold sheath and matching jacket from Cuban-born designer Isabel Toledo for Barack’s swearing-in ceremony. To stay warm in the 30-degree weather, she paired her outfit with olive green gloves from one of her fave shops, J. Crew.

(Her daughters also wore threads from the chain shop to their dad’s Inauguration. Malia chose a royal blue jacket, while Sasha bundled-up in a pale pink coat.)

Meanwhile, the president hit the town in a custom tuxedo made by Chicago-based designer Hart Schaffner Marx . (The brand’s suits typically retail at Nordstrom for about $895.) Obama hasn’t purchased a tux in 15 years, it’s been reported.

Barack and Michelle are expected to hop between the 10 official balls scheduled for tonight. They’ll share a first dance to Beyonce’s performance of Etta James’ “At Last” at the Neighborhood Ball.

But after tonight’s glitz and glamour, it’s down to business.

The new president called America “in the midst of crisis” between the economy woes and war in his speech from the Capitol this afternoon — but promised action.

“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real,” he said in front of a crowd of thousands, including celebs Oprah Winfrey and Anne Hathaway. “They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.”

Kelly Rutherford says she twice called the police on estranged husband Daniel Giersch recently, adding the German entrepreneur frightened her and yelled at her within inches of her face, court documents reveal.

The couple have been mired in an increasingly nasty divorce and are battling over the welfare of their son, Hermes, 2. Rutherford, 40, is four months pregnant with their second child, a daughter.

The first time Rutherford called police occurred when the couple were staying at the Wales Hotel in New York “because [he] kept yelling at me in front of Hermes, and threatening that he was going to take Hermes,” she said in the Jan. 16 court filing. “[He] kept saying that I was ‘going to learn,’ and that he was ‘going to teach [me] a lesson.’”

She adds that Giersch is “an avid boxer and a kickboxer, and I am intimidated by him.”

About one or two months later in Los Angeles, Giersch “had cornered me and come within inches of my face. He would not back away,” Rutherford claims in the court papers. “I was crying and [he] was yelling at me. I remember [him] again saying that I was ‘going to learn’ and he was again threatening to take Hermes away.’”

Both times the police asked Giersch, 34, to leave, and apparently no arrests were made, according to documents.

In response to the new court filing, Giersch released a statement to PEOPLE through his lawyer, Fahi Takesh Hallin. “I don’t want to comment because all of these accusations from Kelly are false and are intended to damage my reputation,” says the statement. “I am solely seeking what is in our children’s best interest.”

Rutherford’s attorney, Lance Spiegel, has a policy not to comment to media. Lawyers for both sides are due Wednesday in a Santa Monica, Calif., court.

Rutherford is seeking to ban Giersch from traveling outside the U.S. with Hermes as well as seeking permission to take the child with her to New York until March, when the current season of Gossip Girl completes filming.

Giersch, meanwhile, has asserted that her stressful working conditions have been detrimental to their child, that she is the one with anger issues, and that he has been Hermes’s primary caretaker all along – all of which she disputes.

SUNDANCE has gone from being a classy Independent-film festival to a week full of D-listers making fools of themselves.

Paris Hilton, who seems to have no interest at all in movies, is even being shunned by her sister. “Nicky can’t stand Paris’ new BFF,” said one source - meaning Brittany Flickinger, who won Paris’ reality-show contest on MTV, “My New BFF.”

Nicky forbade Paris from staying at Jeffrey Katzenberg’s house with her, forcing the heir-head to rent a condo and befriend Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day.

“Paris kept ditching Brittany for Aubrey,” said our source. Friday night, the two left Flickinger at the Eldridge and went across the street to Tao, where the former Best Friend Forever found them at 2 a.m. “She was crying and screaming, ‘Paris, stop leaving me!’ ” said our snitch.

Crooner Robin Thicke also created a scene at Tao Saturday night, when, according to a witness, he screamed at a security guard, “Don’t you know who I am?” and offered the bouncer cash to get in before calming down and joining Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Sting inside.

Sunday, Flickinger was spotted snapping up freebies at the Owl’s Lab gifting station, while Paris hung out with MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe at the MySpace Cafe. They were later seen sucking face at a party. A rep for MySpace said, “We don’t comment on executives’ personal lives.”

Meanwhile, “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush was “partying in full force all weekend,” said one source, “chatting up girls every night.” One reluctant recipient of Bush’s attention griped to Page Six, “He is very lovely when he’s sober.” A rep for “Access Hollywood” did not return calls.

Denise Richards brought a camera crew from E! everywhere she went. At the LiveStyle Film Lounge, she confronted Pierce Brosnan and “tried to convince him to be part of the filming,” said our snitch. “She actually thought James Bond would participate in her reality show.”

Jim Carrey celebrated his 47th birthday with a special present: a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of 50 Cent’s G-Unit entourage.

The comic, along with girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, turned up at vitaminwater’s Sundance house in Park City, Utah, on Saturday to catch the rapper’s midnight performance — and made a beeline to where 50 was performing in the balcony.

“Jim and Jenny were dancing and really getting into the music, so 50 decided to bring him out to the balcony for a special rendition of ‘It’s Your Birthday’,” says our spy.

“When Fiddy told the crowd, ‘I have a very special guest for you’, everyone was floored because he had just done a duet with Robin Thicke. They thought the surprises were over. Then 50 started singing and Jim appeared, and the crowd just lost it.”

Although Carrey didn’t get on the mic, he did lip-synch while busting some ’50s-inspired moves. “Jim was bumping and grinding with Lloyd Banks,” our witness reveals, adding, “It was pandemonium in the best way.”

Carrey, in town to promote his new flick “I Love You Phillip Morris,” then retreated to a corner to catch up with Chris Rock. After some friendly banter, Chris took his turn onstage with 50’s crew. Says our spy: “50 literally stopped in the middle of a song and brought Chris out to hang and dance while he finished his set.”

Other party guests included Wesley Snipes, who spent a large portion of the evening grinding on two buxom blondes; Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrell Owens, Emma Roberts and Paris Hilton, who aimlessly wandered around the house with her new BFF Brittany Flickinger and three hulking bodyguards trailing her every move.

The heirhead then moved on to Tao at the Sundance Lift, where she partied alongside Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Anthony Kiedis, Matisyahu, Slash, Sting and Trudie Styler. “People were clamoring for pictures of Paris, while Sting wandered off completely unnoticed,” says an eyewitness, adding distastefully, “What is wrong with people?”

The Irish-born actor wrote a letter to the City Council in response to the proposed bill to ban the buggy business, according to the Irish Echo. “As a horse lover and rider, I am deeply disturbed by the unnecessary and misguided political and extreme rhetoric against the horse-drawn carriage industry,” the letter stated. “As a proud New York resident, I have personally enjoyed the beauty of Central Park on a daily basis for many years, and these horses are an undeniable integral part of that experience.” Neeson may have to face off with the “30 Rock” star at the legislation hearing on Jan. 30. Baldwin, who believes the horses are suffering, once compared the “tradition” of horse drawn carriages to the “tradition” of drug dealers and public intoxication. The vegetarian has been an avid protester against the use of the four-legged creatures.
